The date of receiving the status of admission from participating NLUs will be 1st July 2017 instead of 4th July 2017 and date of closure of admission process by CLAT 2017 Office will be 1st July 2017 instead of 6th July 2017. Accordingly vacancies for UG and PG courses, if any, in any NLU, the waitlisted candidates who have written CLAT 2017 are directed to visit the website of the respective NLUs to know the further admission process. CLAT 2016-17 which is also known as Common Law Admission Test is an all India entrance examination conducted on rotation by 16 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to their undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes (LL.B. & LL.M.) CLAT is a non-statutory body created for the convenience of the students seeking admission to the various Law Universities in the Country under Memorandum of Understandings (MOU). CLAT 2016 is an online examination and candidates who are interested shall fill the application form from the month of January, 2016. Accordingly, the first Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) was conducted in the year 2008. Now there are 16 participating NLUs and following the practice the eighth Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2016) will be conducted by the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National University, Lucknow. 2164 seats distributed among 16 NLUs for five-year integrated law programmes and 558 seats distributed among 16 NLUs for post graduate law programmes.

CLAT 2016-17 Eligibility Criteria

For UG Programs:
  • Applicants must be passed by Higher Secondary Examination or Intermediate or its equivalent examination from a recognized University with at least 45% of aggregate (40% in case of SC and ST candidates).
  • Applicants who are pursuing for the qualifying examination are also eligible for the examination.
  • Applicant must be below 20 years as on 1st July, 2015 and 22 years in case of SC/ ST/ PH as arranged by their respective university.
For PG Programs:
  • Applicants must be passed in LL.B/ a 5 year integrated LL.B or any other equivalent degree in Law from a recognized University with at least 55% of aggregate (50% in case of SC and ST candidates).
  • Applicants who are pursuing for the degree examination are also eligible for the examination.

  • The test consists of 200 multiple choice questions of 1 mark each.
  • Total time or the examination is 2 hours.
  • Applicants will lose 0.25 marks for each wrong answer attempted.

    • Higher marks in the section of Legal aptitude.

CLAT 2016-2017 Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility Criteria for Undergraduate Programs
Candidates those are interested for appearing in CLAT 2016 must have completed higher secondary or equivalent from a recognized university and secured minimum 45% of marks (40% for SC/ST). Age of interested candidates should be 20 years as on 1st July 2016 (for SC/ST/PWD, the age limitation is 22 years).
Eligibility Criteria for Postgraduate Programs
In order to get admission under Post Graduate program, Candidates should have an LLB or five year integrated LLB degree from a recognized university and scored minimum 55% of marks (50% for SC/ST applicants). There is no any age limitation is specified by concerned authority.
The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), is an all India entrance examination, conducted on rotation by 17 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to their Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate degree programmes. The 17 participating NLUs in the order of their year of establishment are:
